Find the eaves and rakes, see where edge metal belongs, and ask how the roof connects to the fascia and gutters.
The perimeter is easy to overlook when you are choosing a shingle color. Include the roof edges in your estimate conversation so the finish, drainage and gutter connection are planned together.
Understand the detail
Drip edge is metal flashing at the roof perimeter. It helps direct runoff away from the wood edge and into a gutter where one is present. Its installation must be coordinated with underlayment and the specified roof system. High-wind assemblies can have different layering details, so one generic diagram is not a universal specification.

Three steps for a clearer roof inspection
Mark all edges on a roof photo. Separate lower eaves from sloping rakes.
Confirm the finish. Ask for the edge-metal color and whether gutters need temporary removal.
Review the handoff. Have the roofer explain where roofing work ends and gutter or fascia work begins.
Are drip edge and gutters the same thing?
No. Ask for both items to be identified separately in the scope. A gutter replacement quote and a roofing quote may cover different parts of the same perimeter.
