Compare Standard, System, Preferred and Platinum Protection with a quick chart showing early product protection, workmanship and contractor requirements.

The warranty name matters as much as the shingle name. These are Owens Corning’s single-family warranty options, with coverage subject to the actual contract and installation requirements.
Compare at a glance
| Warranty | Early product protection | Manufacturer workmanship |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Product | 10 years | None |
| System Protection | 50 years | None |
| Preferred Protection | 50 years | 10 years |
| Platinum Protection | 50 years | Limited lifetime; reduced after 25 years |
A longer product-defect period does not automatically include installation-error coverage. System Protection and Preferred Protection have different workmanship provisions even though both list 50 years of early product protection.
Look beneath the finished shingles

Decking repairs are part of the installation scope. Ask which repairs are included, how additional damaged decking is priced, and which warranty covers the work. This project photo does not establish Owens Corning warranty eligibility.
Compare the written installation scope with the warranty documents. Product coverage and contractor workmanship coverage can apply to different parts of the job.
Four questions for your estimate
Which warranty is named in the written proposal?
Does the contractor hold the credential required for that package?
Are the required Owens Corning accessories included?
Who registers the coverage, and when will I receive confirmation?

Chimney flashing is a useful detail to discuss when comparing workmanship coverage. Ask who covers this work, for how long, and under which written terms. This photo is an installation example, not proof of enhanced manufacturer coverage.
Keep the coverage specific
The manufacturer’s current written warranty controls coverage. Product defects, wind, algae and workmanship have different terms. Enhanced coverage requires verification of contractor credentials, products and registration. A portal account or pending application is not certification.
