An insulated metal panel combines an exterior metal skin, a factory-bonded insulation core and an interior metal skin. It is a complete panel assembly, not simply a metal roof installed above separate attic insulation. Start by deciding whether you need a roof panel, wall panel or both.

Insulation: compare the complete assembly
Ask for the selected panel’s current thermal data, thickness and test conditions. Center-of-panel R-value is not the same as whole-assembly performance. Joints, fasteners and framing affect the finished building.

An insulated core alone does not prevent condensation. The designer must coordinate joints, vapor control, air leakage and the intended indoor conditions. Do not apply a vented-attic rule to an insulated-panel assembly without checking its design.
